Boiler Inspection Certificate Programme (BICP)

RINA’s three-day BICP course offers a comprehensive training and certification programme for inspectors who inspect steam “package” boilers and associated steam systems.

Delegates are provided with the knowledge of how to better inform boiler owners and users about their compliance with Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSRs), periodicity options and inspection scopes. They are shown how to develop high quality written schemes of examination and how to generate detailed boiler inspection reports involving Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) analyses to demonstrate evidence of in-depth investigation.  Delegates are also advised on how to effectively monitor the scope of work and output of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technicians. The course instructs inspectors in the assessment of boiler conditions and how to offer constructive guidance on these conditions to boiler owners and users.

This course is applicable to the following boiler types within the technical context of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) document BG01:

Industrial and commercial steam and hot water boilers
Small water tube boilers, fired heaters and related steam plants in the boiler feed and steam distribution circuits such as:

  • De-aerators/feed heaters
  • Drains cooler/sampling components
  • Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs)
  • Steam pipework.

Delegates must undergo an assessment procedure to attend this course.

The Certificate Programme is unique in offering on-going training consisting of four parts:

  • Training programme which includes workshops and practical inspection exercises
  • Examination
  • Assessed follow-up boiler inspection reports
  • Use of a boiler inspection log-book and periodic certificate revalidation to encompass changes in the industry.
